GILAS cadet skipper Kiefer Ravena is so certain of winning the basketball gold in the 28th Southeast Asian Games that he said the team should never go back home if it fails to accomplish its mission.
“Pag hindi namin magawa, malamang maghanap na kami ng trabaho sa Singapore,” the outspoken Ravena told Spin.ph. prior to the national team's departure for Singapore on Saturday.
“Oo naman, dapat lang (gold ang kunin namin). Anything less than that is a failure for us and for the Filipino people expecting us to win the gold.”
Ravena of course, knows where he is coming from.
The Ateneo guard is playing in his third straight SEA Games, having been part of the national teams that romped off with the gold in the 2011 and 2013 editions of the meet.
The country has in fact won the basketball gold medals in the last 11 stagings of the biennial showpiece, or since 1991 behind a team that ironically, included Kiefer’s father Bong Ravena.
“Pag hindi na kami nandito malamang naghanap na kami ng trabaho sa kung saan man ginanap ang SEA Games at hindi na kami nakauwi,” added the younger Ravena.
Other than Kiefer, also with the team coached by Tab Baldwin are Prince Rivero, Baser Amer, Giovanni Jalalon, Scott Thompson, Marc Belo, Troy Rosario, Almond Vosotros, Norbert Torres, and naturalized player Marcus Douthit.
