PATTAYA, Thailand – Kayla Sanchez became the first double gold medalist in the 33rd Southeast Asian Games when she annexed the women’s 100m freestyle at the Sport Authority of Thailand Aquatics Center.
Sanchez clocked 54.82 seconds for the freestyle gold, adding to the relay title she won along with Heather White, Xiandi Chua, and Chloe Isleta on Wednesday, in only her first SEA Games appearance.
It was actually a 1-2 finish for the Philippines in the event with White also taking the silver with a clocking of 55.36 seconds.

The 24-year-old Sanchez also has two silvers in the 200m freestyle and the 50m backstroke where she set a new SEA Games record during the heats with a time of 28.47 seconds.
Xiandi Chua copped her second medal of the competition with the silver in the 200m backstroke.
