FOUR boxers led by Josie Gabuco advanced to the semifinals of the 30th Southeast Asian Games to clinch a medal on Wednesday at the PICC Forum.
Gabuco, the reigning Asian champion, beat Raksat Chuthamat of Thailand, 4-1, in the light flyweight quarterfinals to assure herself of at least a bronze medal in the competition.
Bantamweight Aira Villegas beat Vongphachan Vilayphone of Laos, 5-0, while flyweight Irish Magno won over Hui Xin Yee Leona, 5-0, to also clinch at least a bronze in the SEA Games.
Carlo Paalam also overwhelmed his opponent, winning over Khamsathone Khamphouvanh, 5-0, in his light flyweight quarterfinal bout.
Meanwhile, Rogen Ladon, Charly Suarez, and John Marvin also open their campaign on Thursday as they also go for a semifinal berth against separate opponents.
