SUBIC, Zambales — Philippines’ bet Joey delos Reyes settled for the silver medal in the men’s duathlon of the 30th Southeast Asian Games on Monday at Subic Bay Boardwalk.
The 31-year old duathlete clocked one hour, 53 minutes and four seconds, behind Indonesian Jauhari Johan, who finished the 10km run, 40km bike and 5km run race at 1:52:51.
“Oo [disappointed] syempre nasa lugar po ‘to natin pinipilit ko na makuha ‘yung gold pero at least kahit silver nakuha pa rin,” he said.
The Basilan native slowed down in the last 600 meters of the run to hydrate himself and Johan took advantage, pulling away from the exhausted delos Reyes.
Nattawut Srinate was a close third with a time of 1:53:05.
