MEDALS continued to be elusive for the Philippine bowling team as Kenneth Chua and Patrick Nuqui wound up fifth in men’s doubles of the 30th Southeast Asian Games on Wednesday at the Coronado Lanes in Starmall EDSA.
Chua and Nuqui had a total of 2420 pinfalls in the six-game series.
Indonesia’s Billy Muhammad Islam and Hardy Rachmadian ruled the event with a 2592 total, Thailand’s Atchariya Cheng and Surasak Manuwong took the silver medal with 2564 points, while Malaysia’s Tun Hakim and Rafiq Ismali got the bronze with 2556.
Chua had a solid start of 245 but could not sustain it, ending with a 145 and a 196 average.
Nuqui averaged with 207.33 points per game.
Merwin Tan and Frederick Ong were ninth in the 15-team field, combining for 2384.
Nuqui also placed fifth in the men’s singles on Tuesday with 1310 pinfalls, just seven points behind bronze medalist Cheah Ray Han of Singapore.
Timmy Tan of Malaysia won the gold with 1334 pinfalls, just three ahead of Annop Arromsaranon, who scored 1331.
Chua placed eighth in the men’s singles with 1284 points. Tan wound up 13th with 1245 points, while Ong ranked 24th out of 30 participants, scoring 1113.
