HANOI – Indonesia’s naturalized player Marques Bolden didn’t see action on Monday in the 31st Southeast Asian Games men’s basketball due to a back issue.

Bolden was in street clothes during Indonesia’s 95-92 overtime win over Malaysia.

“We will see day-by-day,” said Toroman. “He has a problem with his back.”

Bolden is one of the intriguing players in the SEA Games competition as he plays for the Indonesia basketball team with outstanding credentials.

A product of Duke, Bolden recently played in the G League with the Salt Lake Stars where he averaged 12.3 points, 9.3 rebounds, and 1.9 blocks during the 2021-2022 season.

Indonesia began the SEA Games on a shaky note, surviving Malaysia after it came back from 22 points down.

Coach Rajko Toroman and the Indonesian squad, like the Philippines, are off to a shaky start.

Brandon Jawato led Indonesia with 17 points and eight rebounds, while Derrick Michael Xzavierro, a product of the NBA Global Academy, had 24 points. Damar Grahita added 22 markers.

“I think we played 30 minutes of good basketball. But they were shooting crazy from three points,” said Toroman, referring to Malaysia’s 19-of-54 shooting from threes.

“But overall, we played good basketball. Only crazy things happened in the game to give them a chance to win a game. We put Derrick Michael in the position five. We tried to do something. He had a great game,” said Toroman.
