THE cash incentives of the 31st Southeast Asian Games medalists has been doubled, the Filipino athletes getting big bonuses for their fine performances in their final international multisport competition under the Duterte administration.
Philippine Sports Commission chairman William Ramirez said President Duterte was very pleased with the performance of the delegation as it finished fourth in the medal standings with 52 gold, 70 silver, and 105 bronze medals.
A total of P34,537,500 was awarded to the medalists. Republic Act 10699 states that SEA Games gold medalists receive P300,000 each, silver medalists P150,000, and bronze medalists P60,000.
“President Duterte was very pleased by the performance of our athletes in the last Vietnam SEA Games and doubling their incentives is his way of recognizing and showing his appreciation for their efforts,” said Duterte.

With Duterte matching the incentives, Caloy Yulo of gymnastics will now be getting a total of P3,375,000 for winning five golds and two silvers to become the most bemedalled Filipino athlete in the Games.
Aleah Finnegan of gymnastics will take P1.35 from PSC and Duterte, while Rubilen Amit of billiards and Kim Mangrobang of triathlon will receive P1.2 million.
