HANNIEL Abella lost to Abdul Rahman Kiria Tikanah of Malaysia, 15-12, in the individual epee final at the World Trade Center as the Philippines settled for silver yet again in fencing in the 30th Southeast Asian Games.
The silver was the second for the Philippine team after CJ Concepcion finished second in the individual sabre event.

Abella finished second in pool play with a 3-1 record, and beat Che Ku Rahim Che Ku Nur Aida of Malaysia, 15-5. She advanced into the final after winning over Nguyen Nhu Hoa of Vietnam, 15-10.
It was Abella’s second consecutive silver, taking the same medal in the 2017 edition in Kuala Lumpur.
Nathaniel Perez, meanwhile, settled for the bronze after losing the semifinal match to Hans Yoong of Malaysia, 15-11.
After a 4-0 mark in the elimination round, Perez won over Xing Han Cheng, 15-8, but lost to the Malaysian in the semifinal.
