GREG Slaughter will take the place of Roger Pogoy in the national team seeing action in the 30th Southeast Asian Games.
Gilas Pilipinas coach Tim Cone confirmed the development on Monday night on the eve of the managers’ meeting for the men's basketball competition.
It will be in the managers’ meeting that Slaughter’s name will be submitted as a medical replacement for Pogoy, who is out due to a back injury he sustained playing for TNT during the PBA Governors’ Cup.
Slaughter was considered a shoo-in for the Final 12 of Gilas until he sustained a thumb injury that kept him out for a few games with Barangay Ginebra.
Gilas Pilipinas will have one more practice session on Tuesday before playing its first game at the Mall of Asia Arena on Wednesday against Singapore to start off their quest for their 18th gold in the 20th stagings of men's basketball.
