GILAS Pilipinas women vented their ire on Vietnam as they bounced back with an emphatic 116-58 victory in the Southeast Asian Games on Saturday at the Morodok Techo Indoor Sports Center in Phnom Penh.
Khate Castillo waxed hot with seven triples to backstop the Philippines’ scoring with 22 markers on 7-of-12 shooting. She also had three rebounds, and one steal.

Five other players finished in double-digit scoring as Philippines led by as many as 60 points.
Gilas women improved their record to 3-1 and hope tournament leader Indonesia loses as the Philippines tries to keep alive its bid for a three-peat in the biennial tournament.
Jack Animam and Clare Castro atoned from their sorry outing in their previous game as they chipped in 16 and 15 markers, respectively.
Animam had a double-double with 13 rebounds. She also had four dimes and a steal.
The Filipinas blew the game wide open with an 18-3 run in the second period for a 33-9 lead.
Gilas women coach Pat Aquino utilized all his players and each of them scored at least two points in the lopsided victory.
They sizzled on offense as they breached 50 percent field goal percentage.
Thao Vy Truong paced Vietnam in the losing effort with 15 points.
Despite the win, the Gilas women’s gold medal bid in the 32nd Southeast Asian Games remains in peril as they need to win their remaining game against Thailand while also hoping for Indonesia losses against both Cambodia and Singapore.
The women’s tournament is a single round-robin event where the team with the best record wins gold.
As it stands, if Indonesia wins either game against Cambodia or Singapore, the Indonesians will edge the Philippines for the gold.
