BANGKOK – Gilas Pilipinas gave the country its 50th and, likely, final gold medal of the 33rd Southeast Asian Games.
The Philippines won nine gold medals in Day 10 that ended with Gilas Pilipinas beating host Thailand, 70-64, in the championship game at the Nimibutr Stadium.
Barring any victory from the open water swimming team on Saturday, the Philippines will end up with 50 gold medals.

Gilas Pilipinas Women was also part of the deluge of gold medals along with the Alas Pilipinas Women Beach, Philippine Blu Girls, Eumir Marcial of boxing, Peter Grosclose in the men’s speed skating 500m, the men’s bowling team of fours, and Samuel German in the men’s obstacle laser run and Gabriel Thomas Dinette in the men’s freestyle events 86kg in wrestling.
But the splurge of gold medals was not enough to move up in the medal tally as the Philippines stays at sixth spot with a 50-53-153 gold-silver-bronze hail.
Malaysia has rose to fourth with 56-57-116, followed by Singapore at fifth with 52-60-86.
Thailand is the overall champion with 232-154-106 ahead of Saturday’s closing ceremonies at the Rajamangala National Stadium.
Indonesia is in second with 91-111-129, followed by Vietnam at third with 86-79-110
