PATTAYA, Thailand – It’s going to be Gilas Pilipinas against Thailand for the men’s basketball gold at the 33rd Southeast Asian Games.
The host country dispatched Malaysia, 86-55, on Thursday the Nimibutr Stadium in Bangkok to advance to the finals and meet the Philippines for all the marbles.
The gold medal match is set on Friday, 7 p.m. at the Nimibutr Stadium.

The Philippines has been acknowledged as the king of basketball in the region, but Gilas struggled during the formation of the squad due to what it said as a ‘tedious back-and-forth’ in gaining approval from the Thailand SEA Games Organizing Committee.

The unconventional mix of Filipino players will only be playing in their fourth game together when they vie for the gold.
Meanwhile, Thailand formed one of its best squads in years after making progress in recent history, including a near qualification to the FIBA Asia Cup 2025.
