SUBIC, Zambales — The Philippines settled for the bronze in the 22-seater 500-meter mixed dragon boat in the 30th Southeast Asian Games on Sunday at Malawaan Park.
Indonesia claimed the gold in one minute and 53.75 seconds, followed by Thailand in 1:55.15 and the Philippines at 1:58.42.
Philippine dragon boat head coach Len Escollante said she considers it as a win.
“Sa akin, hindi ko masasabing disappointment,” she said. “As long as nag-perform ‘yung mga player natin, a medal is still a medal. Of course, everybody wants gold, but at least, maganda na rin nangyayri sa players natin.”
Meanwhile, in the 4-seater 500m-men and 22 seater 1000m-mixed the Philippines fell short of a podium finish, finishing fourth in both divisions.
“You cannot tell kung sino mananalo,” said Escollante. “Every time magsasabi ng prediction, di mo talaga masasabi kasi lahat nag-prepare eh.”
