PATTAYA, Thailand – Rolando Bregente and Rianne Malixi gained a share of the lead in their respective individual events in the 33rd Southeast Asian Games golf tournament at the Siam Country Club Rolling Hills on Thursday.
Bregente shot an eagle-aided 65, while Malixi had a 70 to start off their respective bids for a medal in the biennial competition.

Bregente, who started at the back nine, made the eagle in the 14th hole, and with six birdies and one bogey, ended the first round at 7-under par to take the clubhouse lead.
He was later joined on the top of the leaderboard by Laopakdee Pongsapak of Thailand after birding three of the last four holes in the back nine.
Malixi had a 2-under par after making four birdies, but had her second bogey on the par-4 ninth hole to drop in a share of first with Kaopattanaskul Kritchanya of Thailand.
Shinnichi Suzuki, Chris Remata, and Perry Bucay are in a tie for 24th in the men’s individual event with a 78.
In only his first SEA Games round, Bregente, who turned 24 just last Tuesday, made an eagle from 150 yards out, using an eight-iron, and the ball landing before the pin before rolling to the cup.
