HANNIEL Abella capped off the Philippine fencing team's dream run, besting Singapore, 45-38, to win the gold in the women's team epee in the 30th Southeast Asian Games on Saturday at World Trade Center.
Abella made sure that the triumph was in the bag for the hosts, outwitting Kiria Abdul Rahman in the ninth round.
Abella, together with Harlene Raguin, Anna Gabriella Estimada and Mickyle Bustos delivered the Philippine fencers their second gold in the biennial meet.
Their victory followed up Jylyn Nicanor's gold medal conquest in the women's individual sabre two days back.
Bronze, meanwhile, came the way of the men's side as it fell to Thailand in the men's team foil semifinals, 45-40.
The Philippine team made up of Nathaniel Perez, Shawn Nicollei, Michael Nicanor and Jaime Viceo V, brought the country its sixth bronze medal in the games.
On Sunday, the teams for men's epee and women's sabre will try to cap off the Filipino fencers' run in this SEA Games with a flourish.
