EUMIR Marcial led two boxers to the finals of the 30th Southeast Asian Games at the PICC Tent on Friday.

Marcial outclassed Che Azmi Mohd Aswan of Malaysia via referee-stop-contest in the first round of their middleweight encounter to clinch a spot in the boxing finals, where he was joined by Carlo Paalam and Josie Gabuco.

Paalam beat Mohd Redzuan Muhamad Fuad of Malaysia, 5-0, in the men’s lightweight division while Gabuco, the reigning Asian champion, beat Thi Diem Kieu of Vietnam, 5-0, in the women’s light flyweight division.

Marcial, the reigning silver medalist in the world championship, showed his class as he prompted the referee to stop the fight at 1:06 in the first round after pouncing Aswan with a barrage of punches.

Marcial will next take on Nguyen Manh Cuong of Vietnam who advanced after a knockout win over Siv Songmeng of Cambodia.

Paalam will face Langku Kornelis of Indonesia, a 5-0 win winner over Sao Rangsey of Cambodia. Endang Endang of Indonesia will be the final opponent of Gabuco after she won against Htoo Aye Nyein of Myanmar, 5-0.

Bantamweights Aira Villegas dropped a 3-2 decision over Techasuep Nilawan of Thailand, and Ian Clark Bautista lost, 3-2, to Butdee Chatchai Decha of Thailand, in their semifinal bouts.
