NEW CLARK CITY – Team Philippines’ campaign in athletics suffered a blow following the disqualification of Olympian Eric Cray in the 100-meter dash of the 30th Southeast Asian Games.

The 31-year-old Fil-Am committed two false starts during the qualifying heat on Sunday morning at the New Clark City Stadium that eliminated him from seeing action in the final of the century dash to be held later in the evening.

Cray won the gold in the 100-meter during the 2015 SEA Games in Singapore and then settled for the silver two years later in Kuala Lumpur, Malaysia behind gold medalist Khairul Hafiz Jantan.

Anfernee Lopena is the other Philippine entry in the centerpiece event of athletics, finishing second in his heat with a time of 10.61 seconds.

Cray is still entered though in the men’s 400-meter hurdles, where he’s expected to win the gold after topping the event in 2017.
