Ando won the gold by beating Hong Thi Duyen of Vietnam, who was the previous record holders in the weight class.

Ando broke the SEA Games record on her third lift in the snatch, shattering the 96-kg mark set by Hoang last year in Hanoi.

With her as the remaining competitor in the contest, the University of Cebu product carried 118 on her first and only lift to seal the bronze while breaking the 115 of Hoang she set in 2019.

Ando also broke the 210 total set by Hoang in 2019.

It was Ando’s first SEA Games gold medal after her first two appearances ended in disappointment.

Ando failed to lift within the allotted time during the clean and jerk in 2019 and 2021 that led to silver medal finishes.
