PATTAYA, Thailand – EJ Obiena will be vying for his fourth straight Southeast Asian Games gold medal in Thailand.
Obiena is listed as part of the Philippine delegation submitted to the organizers for the biennial multisport competition.
“I am planned to participate in the upcoming SEA Games,” said Obiena in an online message to SPIN.ph.
The 30-year-old Obiena recently said during the World Pole Vault Athletics Challenge that he is willing to skip the SEA Games in order to give a chance to other Philippine pole vaulters.
Plans, however, have apparently changed, and Obiena is expected to cruise to the men’s pole vault gold medal in the SEA Games athletics competition to be held at the Supachalasai Stadium in Bangkok.
The men’s pole vault competition is on December 16.
Obiena holds a personal best of 6.00 meters and a 2025 season best of 5.80 meters. One of the protagonists for the men’s pole vault is Thailand’s Patsapong Amsang-ang, who had a 2025 season best of 5.67 meters.
Elijah Cole will be other Filipino bet entered in pole vault.
Filipino pole vaulter Hokett Delos Santos will be competing in the decathlon.
