SINGAPORE — Dennis Orcollo recovered from three racks down and won seven straight to defeat Myanmar’s Maung Maung, 9-4, and bag the 9-ball gold medal on Wednesday in the Southeast Asian Games at the OCBC Arena.
The former World Pool Masters and World 8-ball champion fell behind early but won the fourth and fifth racks to trim the deficit.
After Maung won the sixth to extend his lead to 4-2, Orcollo took the seventh rack and cruised to the title, his third straight in the biennial meet.
Orcollo, also the 2010 Asian Games 9-ball champion, tops his third event in the SEA Games after winning the 8-ball singles in 2011 in Indonesia and claiming the gold in the 10-ball in the 2013 Myanmar Games.
“Medyo sinuwerte, kasi magaling yong kalaban,” Orcollo, said. “Medyo masama lang kamada noon umpisa.”
Carlo Biado and Warren Kiamco earlier won the 9-ball doubles and Chezka Centeno won the all-Filipina women’s 9-ball singles over Rubilen Amit.
