DENNIS Orcollo nipped Do The Kien of Vietnam, 9-8, on Monday to win the men’s 10-ball singles gold medal in the 30th Southeast Asian Games at the Manila Hotel Tent.

Orcollo won the nail-biting match to come up with the gold medal for the Philippines in billiards and snooker, the country’s third in the Games.

Orcollo is actually the reigning champion in 10-ball singles as the event has not been held in the past two editions of the Games, winning it way back in 2013 in Myanmar.

Chezka Centeno and Rubilen Amit will fight for a second gold on Tuesday after beating Angeline Ticoalu and Silviana Lu of Indonesia, 7-3, in the women’s 9-ball doubles.

Centeno and Amit previously won the 10-ball and 9-ball singles respectively.

The 10-ball gold of Orcollo somewhat made up for his quarterfinal defeat against Yapp Aloysius of Singapore, 9-4, in the 9-ball singles. Warren Kiamco also bowed to Toh Lian Han of Singapore in his own quarterfinal match.

Jefrey Roda lost to Moh Keen Hoo of Malaysia, 4-1, in the men’s snooker singles semifinals.
