COLIN Syquia and his mount Adventure E have been suspended by the Federation Equestre Internationale after the brown gelding tested positive for a prohibited substance - a development that could cost them a gold medal won in the last Southeast Asian Games.
The FEI tribunal in September issued a decision on prohibited substance cases on the website inside.fei.org. A list showed Adventure E tested positive for the sedative clomethiazole, a banned substance, during the SEA Games in Kuala Lumpur.
FEI said “the athlete has been provisionally suspended from the date of notification (21 September 2017). Additionally, the horse has been provisionally suspended for two months.”
Malaysia news portals earlier reported three athletes failed doping tests, but SEA Games Federation medical and anti-doping committee head Datuk Dr. SS Cheema did not reveal the names.
"SEAGF will revoke the medal if any of the athletes are medal winners and the International Federation of their respective sport will decide on what course of action to be taken if any of them failed the dope test," said Cheema.
Syquia, aboard Adventure E, ruled the individual showjumping competition with a score of 37.63, beating a Malaysian rider for the gold.
