KUALA LUMPUR - Gilas Pilipinas coach Chot Reyes made the trip here to witness the national squad compete in the 29th Southeast Asian Games.

    What he saw wasn't pretty.

Reyes watched from the bench as the Gilas cadets labored for four quarters before dispatching Singapore, 68-60, in their semifinal match on Friday at the MABA Stadium.

Reyes was clearly not happy with the team's performance, saying that it will difficult for the Gilas to win the gold medal if they play as badly as they did against the Singaporeans.

"I thought we played a really good game up to this point," said Reyes, who is coming off Gilas' stint in the Fiba Asia Cup in Lebanon. "Today, we played a game that is not going to get the job done tomorrow (in the final) regardless of who we play."

"The game that we played today will not be enough to get the job done," Reyes said.

Even though he joined the team on Friday, Reyes still let his chief assistant Jong Uichico call the shots while he sat on the bench with deputies Jimmy Alapag and Josh Reyes.

Reyes said the brief preparation may have played a role in the lackluster performance of the teamas the tournament got deeper into the playoffs.

"Yes, definitely, plus the fact that parang 'yung sa Fiba Asia, hindi rin naman nabuo 'yung team na 'to until dumating na dito kasi Chris (Standhardinger) and Carl (Cruz) were with us in Beirut bago pa makaabot dito," said Reyes.
