SINGAPORE – Carlo Biado and Warren Kiamco formed an ideal partnership that netted them the men’s 9-ball doubles gold in the 28th Southeast Asian Games here.
Not bad really for two players who months ago competed against each other in a big billiards event back home tagging along different partners
Biado and Kiamco played against each other in the 9-ball doubles of the Manny Pacquiao Cup weeks before the SEA Games.
Known more in singles competition, Biado, the current world no.1 player, admitted how difficult playing doubles in billiards. Under its rules, each player takes turn converting the balls in the table.
“Walang init ‘yung tira namin,” said Biado.
Kiamco added: “Suwertehan din. Dapat consistent kayong dalawa na kung magka-error man, walang sisihan kasi kasama sa laro ‘yun.”
That’s exactly what the Filipino duo did as they beat Vietnam in the gold medal match, 9-7.
“Maganda ‘yung tandem namin kasi hindi kami nagtatalo,” Biado said.
“Kung nagkaka-error man, kailangang tanggapin,” Kiamco added.
While they did win the gold, the veteran Kiamco admitted beating formidable opponents on their way to the top.
“’Yung Thailand (first game), gitgitan kami. Lamang kami 5-3, tapos nalamangan kami, 6-5. Mabigat ‘yung Thailand, Singapore, at saka Vietnam. Marurunong na rin sila,” said Kiamco.
