Caleb Stuart wins hammer throw gold, sets new record in SEA Games

    Jun 9, 2015

SINGAPORE — Caleb Stuart set a new Southeast Asian Games record on his way to the gold medal in the men’s hammer throw at the start of the field events of athletics on Tuesday at the National Stadium.

The 24-year-old Stuart threw 65.63 meters in his third attempt on his pet event, short of his personal best of 67.24 but more than enough to beat the SEA Games record of 62.23 meters held by T. Phetchaiya of Thailand.

Stuart is the eighth gold medalist for the Philippines in the 28th SEA Games, and the first for athletics, whose leadership is banking on a 12-gold medal haul here in the Lion City.

Arniel Ferrera finished fourth with a throw of 60.08 meters, 1.1 short of Singaporean bronze medalist Jackie Siew Cheer Wong's mark.
