NEW CLARK CITY - Team Philippines Chef de Mission William 'Butch' Ramirez urged Filipino athletes to sustain their showing in the country's bid to regain the overall crown in the Southeast Asian Games.

Ramirez noted how the Philippines is 'performing magnificently in the face of world-class foes.'

And that is reflected in the way Filipinos are leading the medal tally so far, churning out a total of 41 golds, 24 silvers, and 15 bronzes (as of posting time) just two days after formal competitions kicked off on Sunday.

Vietnam sits at second with 15 golds followed by Malaysia with 10.

Ramirez, also the Philippine Sports Commission (PSC) chairman, hopes the trend would stay the same.

"We are riding on this positive wave and continue to hope that we can sustain this," said Ramirez in a statement Tuesday.

"We still have many days of battle ahead of us, but I remain steadfast in my belief in our national team," he said. "I know that they are intent on delivering pride and honor for our country."
