BIEN Zoleta-Mañalac and Bambi Zoleta topped the women’s doubles for soft tennis’ second gold in the 30th Southeast Asian Games on Sunday at the Rizal Memorial Tennis Center.
The Zoleta sisters beat Sawitre Naree and Natchatjira Kerdsomboon of Thailand, 5-0.
It was the second gold medal for Zoleta-Mañalac, who took the gold in the singles on Saturday. She won again with her younger sister who was also her doubles partner when they were still playing lawn tennis.
“Siyempre, very historic ito. Another gold for soft tennis. First gold sa women’s doubles. Masayang masaya kami kasi kami pang magkapatid ang nakapagbigay noon para sa asosasyon at sa bayan. Masaya na kami ang nagdala,” said the 30-year-old Zoleta-Mañalac.
Bien and Bambi beat Champamanivong Phonesamai and Aliya Maniphone of Laos, 5-0, and Rin Sotheary and Chen Sreyloy of Cambodia, 5-0, in the preliminaries of Group B to arrange a finals match against the Thai pair.
