TWO Philippine teams captured victories on Friday, days before the formal start of the 31st Southeast Asian Games in Vietnam.
The Azkals U23 got off to a blistering start, defeating Timor Leste, 4-0, at the Viet Tri Stadium in Phu Tho.

The men’s beach handball team, meanwhile, overcame Thailand, 18-16, 18-16, at the Tuan Chau Island in Quang Ninh.
Christian Rontini got the Azkals U23 to strong start, scoring a header off a free kick from skipper Stephan Schrock.
The Azkals U23 connected on three more goals in the second half with Dennis Chung making it 2-0 in the 56th minute.
Jovin Bedic, the other overage player in the squad along with Schrock, also added to the tally in the 78th and Oskari Kekkonen completed the rout in the 80th against Timor Leste, a semifinalist in the AFF Under-23 Championship last February.
The men’s beach handball squad, bronze winners in the last SEA Games, got off to a strong start, beating the reigning silver medalists.
