SINGAPORE — The Philippine athletics team fell a hairline short of another gold on Thursday as Thailand won the 4x400-meter relay in the Southeast Asian Games at the National Stadium.
Kunanon Sukkaew caught Archand Bagsit in the final leg to anchor Thailand to victory in the thrilling race with a time of three minutes and 6.81 seconds, only 0.03 seconds quicker than the Philippines.
The Philippines appeared headed for the win as Joan Caido, Edgardo Alejan Jr., and Ryan Bigyan got them ahead only for Thailand to win the race on the final leg.
Vietnam won the bronze with a time of 3:08.48.
The silver finish of the 4x400m medley team capped a gold-less day for Philippine athletics, which is predicting a minimum of eight gold medals.
So far, the Philippines has four golds in athletics, two won by Eric Cray in the 100m run and 400m hurdles.
