ALYSSA Valdez leads the candidates for the captaincy in the national team that will compete in the 29th Southeast Asian Games in Malaysia on August.
Aside from the former Ateneo star, the country’s flag bearer in the 2015 edition of biennial meet, La Salle setter Kim Fajardo, Rachel Anne Daquis and Aiza Maizo-Pontillas are also being eyed for the captaincy.
But the San Juan, Batangas native, currently in Thailand where he is playing for 3BB Nakornnont in the Thai Volleyball League, said being part of the pool is already an honor.
“I'm blessed to be part of the pool but it doesn't stop there. I hope to contribute to the team,” Valdez said in a message sent through Viber.
“Being the team captain isn't important as long as we all help each other in representing the country,” she added.
Joining Valdez, Fajardo, Daquis and Maizo-Pontillas in the 25-woman pool are Mika Reyes, Jaja Santiago, Jovelyn Gonzaga, Aby Marano, Dindin Manabat, Lourdes Clemente, Gen Casugod, Maika Ortiz, Marivic Meneses, Myla Pablo, Gretchel Soltones, Elaine Kasilag, liberos Bia General, Denden Lazaro and Kath Arado and setters Rhea Dimaculangan and Roselle Baliton, Kat Tolentino, Maddie Madayag, Kim Dy and Dawn Macandili.
