ALYSSA Valdez and Jia Morado will skip the final days of national team training in Japan to rejoin Creamline in the PVL Open semifinals.
The Philippine women’s volleyball team led by Aby Marano left for Japan on Sunday but Valdez and Morado will not be able to stay for the full 12-day camp. The two are set to leave on Friday with the Cool Smashers set to play on Saturday.
Valdez and Morado are expected to play with the Philippine team in two of five scheduled tune-up matches — against the Kashiwa Angel Cross on Tuesday and Gunma Bank Green Wings on Thursday.
Kalei Mau, Majoy Baron, Ces Molina, Rhea Dimaculangan, Dawn Macandili, Mylene Paat, Jovelyn Gonzaga, Maddie Madayag, Mika Reyes and Kath Arado will stay in Japan for the rest of the camp.
“Hopefully naman kahit ilang days lang kami dito we can improve our chemistry with the team,” said Valdez after the morning workout on Monday. “I think most especially Jia. Her role is also crucial and she really wanted to get all the type of sets na gusto rin talaga ng mga teammates niya.”
“I think we have a month naman, when we go back to the Philippines, to train with them,” she added.
“Hopefully we make the most out of it bonding and jelling inside the court.”
The Cool Smashers, who have secured the No. 1 spot, are still waiting for their semifinal opponents, with the seeding to be determined on the final day of eliminations.
