Almond Vosotros finds place in Baldwin system, shoots lights out vs Malaysia

    Jun 11, 2015

SINGAPORE - A morning shootaround was all it took for Almond Vosotros to get into the groove in the Philippines’ lopsided victory over Malaysia in the 28th Southeast Asian Games.

The former De La Salle Green Archer scored 21 points and hit five three-pointers, the last one giving the Gilas cadets a resounding 100-48 victory for a 2-0 record in the men’s basketball tournament at the OCBC Arena.

Vosotros, the pride of Marulas, Valenzuela City, disclosed the team had some shooting drills in the morning, allowing the streaky shooter to get to his rhythm against the Malaysians.

“Actually, kanina, nag-practice pa kami. Nag-shootaround pa kami in preparation for this game,” he said.

It also helped that he got wide open looks, according to Vosotros, as his final triple allowed the team to reach the century mark.

“Nalilibre lang ako sa mga plays ni coach Tab. Wide-open kaya kailangan kong mai-shoot ‘yun,” said Vosotros.

The Cebuana Lhuillier gunner said he’s happy the men’s team was able to beat Malaysia and Indonesia in succession, while adding being grateful to be given the opportunity to compete at a high level like the SEA Games.

“Sobrang ganda ng opportunity na 'to. Sobrang happy kami na nanalo kami especially against Malaysia and Indonesia. Sila na ‘yung team na strongest sa bracket namin,” said Vosotros.
