ADA Milby and Stephen Fernandez, both active officers and former athletes of Rugby and Taekwondo respectively, were named Deputy Chefs De Mission of Team Philippines, to serve alongside Philippine Sports Commission Commissioners Celia Kiram, Arnold Agustin, Charles Maxey and Ramon Fernandez.
They will be assisting PSC chairman William Ramirez in his tasks as Chef de Mission to the 2019 Southeast Asian Games, which has three main clusters in Subic, Clark and Manila, with other venues in Batangas, Cavite, La Union, Bulacan, Tagaytay and Calatagan.
“Stephen will be the Senior DCDM,” announced Ramirez.
Milby and Fernandez’ had been mentioned as candidates for the posts even before Ricky Vargas resigned as Philippine Olympic Committee president.
Ramirez said that “the PSC Commissioners were a logical choice since they have already started coordinating with NSAs. They are also part of the board which will approve requests so it is good for them to know the situation on the ground for deeper understanding of our athletes’ needs.”
