POC President Abraham “Bambol” Tolentino announced Monday that the reinstatement of the monthly allowances of all national athletes and coaches was included in the Bayanihan 2 proposal which has already been approved by the House of Representatives.
It will be recalled that P110M originally intended for the Philippine Sports Commission was realigned for expenses in the fight against the Covid 19.
Tolentino batted for the inclusion of funds for the national athletes in the Bayanihan2 proposal.
“By giving them the adequate allowances they deserve, we prove to our national athletes and coaches that we appreciate all their efforts and sacrifices and that we continue to support them especially during these trying times. We also included an additional Five Thousand Peso Covid Situation assistance on top of their allowances,” he said.
The POC head, also the representative of the 8th district of Cavite, expressed his gratitude to House Speaker Alan Peter Cayetano who ably worked with him for the passage of the proposal in the Lower House.
He said “we now await approval of the Senate. Speaker Alan and Senate President Vicente Sotto III have already discussed this and have come to a meeting of the minds. This will be discussed extensively in a scheduled bi-cameral meeting.”
