PHILIPPINE Sports Commission (PSC) chairman William Ramirez was appointed the new chef de mission for the 2019 Southeast Asian Games after sweeping changes undertaken by the Philippine Olympic Committee on Monday.
Ramirez replaces Monsour Del Rosario, who was one of several key officials removed from their posts in a purge ordered by POC president Ricky Vargas during a heated general assembly on Monday at Max’s Restaurant in Kapitolyo, Pasig.
POC first vice president Joey Romasanta, however, insisted the new appointments are not valid as these were not the decision of the executive board.
Incidentally, Romasanta was also replaced as chief of mission of Team Philippines to the 2020 Tokyo Olympics by POC chairman Abraham ‘Bambol’ Tolentino.
Lawyer Alberto Agra was named chairman of the constitution and bylaws committee, replacing former POC president Jose ‘Peping’ Cojuangco, while muay chief Lucas Managuelod was appointed chairman of the membership committee in place of squash association head Robert Bachmann.
