Army coach admits Rachel Anne Daquis has pain in shoulder but expects former MVP to raise her game in title decider

    May 24, 2015

RACHEL Anne Daquis continued to struggle with an injury but Army coach Rico de Guzman is confident the former MVP will deliver when the Lady Troopers face the PLDT Ultra Fast Hitters in the deciding match of the V-League Open Conference title series at the Filoil Flying V Arena in San Juan.

Daquis played more minutes in the second match after playing only two sets in the opener best-of-three finals series opener. However, she scored just four points as the Army struggled and allowed PLDT to force a rubber match.

De Guzman bared Daquis is suffering pain in her shoulder though the Philippine Army said it isn’t something to be worried about. In fact, De Guzman said Daquis is slowly recovering from that injury.

“Masakit lang balikat niya. Nagpapagaling siya. Hindi naman malala. Mild lang ’yun,” said De Guzman.

“Nakakarecover na siya kaya binibigyan ko siya ng chance (maglaro) para makahabol sa game,” the Army coach added.

Daquis was given limited minutes in the opener to give the wing spiker time to rest following a grueling campaign that saw her also play in the Philippine Super Liga All-Filipino Conference where she helped Petron win back-to-back titles.

“Makakarecover na siya lalo na’t ilang game na siyang medyo mababa ang laro niya. Nag-eexxpect kami na mataas ang laro niya sa Game Three,” said De Guzman.

Rachel Anne Daquis is also a member of the Philippine team seeing action in the Southeast Asian Games in Singapore next month.
