THE Philippine Sports Commission (PSC) is eyeing a collaboration with SM Investments for the development of the Rizal Memorial Sports Complex.
With the construction of SM Harrison Plaza in full swing nearby, PSC chairman Patrick Gregorio has sought the help of no less than SM Prime Holdings chairman Hans Sy for more improvements at the Rizal Memorial Sports Complex.
“Yung Rizal, konting ulan, baha, marami nang dapat ipaayos. Nilapitan natin si Chairman Hans Sy, I told him you have a beautiful development across the street, tulungan mo naman kami,” said Gregorio, who had Sy as a guest in his office recently.

“Naniniwala siya na we have to preserve the heritage of Rizal. Sportsman si Chairman Hans with National University, ice skating, and more. Nag-meeting kami, pinuntahan niya ako, naglakad sa buong Rizal, and he was so happy to see the improvements,” added Gregorio.
A few of the plans presented to SM is the construction of a walkway in the creek located at the perimeter of the Rizal Memorial Sports Complex that would make the facility accessible to those coming from the Taft Avenue, Pablo Ocampo, and LRT area, as well as a plaza in the M. Adriatico area.
Wellness park
“Pinag-aaralan na natin how we can clear yung badminton area, gymnastics area, and property office, doon sa may creek dahil talagang baha at walang easement. All of that, ang importante sa atin, makagawa tayo ng wellness park. We have to open Rizal to the community for everybody to enjoy,” said Gregorio.
“Hindi tayo konektado sa LRT, dapat pag may major facility ka, dapat interconnected siya lahat,” said Gregorio.
“Very open po ang SM diyan to preserve the heritage of Rizal Memorial,” said Gregorio.
