SIX Filipino athletes led by Rio Olympics silver medalist Hidilyn Diaz have been included in a program that will provide additional funding for Filipino elite athletes’ training.
Southeast Asian Games double-gold winner Trenten Anthony Beram of athletics, Carlos Yulo and Kaitlin De Guzman of gymnastics and Kiyomi Watanabe and Mariya Takahashi were also listed by the Philippine Sports Commission as beneficiaries of a training program that will be supported by a private foundation.
Details have yet to be released but PSC-Philippine Sports Institute training director Marc Velasco said the six athletes will be funded by the Siklab Atleta Pilipinas Foundation and other athletes could be added to the program upon the evaluation by the PSC.
The foundation, headed by Presidential Adviser on Sports Dennis Uy, earlier provided additional incentives for medalists in the KL SEA Games, with gold medalists receiving P50,000, silver medalists P30,000 and bronze medalists P10,000.
Meanwhile, lawyer Sannah B. Frivaldo has been appointed as the new PSC executive director, replacing Carlo Abarquez, who is moving to the private sector.
