THE Philippine Sports Commission (PSC) has sought the help of the National Bureau of Investigation (NBI) for an alleged ‘payroll-padding’ anomaly in the agency.

Sources said a PSC employee was arrested on Tuesday on allegations of qualified theft after it was discovered that names of athletes and coaches who were no longer qualified to receive allowances from the government agency were added to the payroll.

The employee, the source added, credited the amount to his own bank account.

The PSC learned about the irregularity when it was informed by Landbank about the employee's unusually large cash transactions, according to sources.

“We have sought the help of the National Bureau of Investigation on the matter so we cannot comment further. Suffice it to say that there were red flags which alerted us, and so we acted accordingly,” said PSC officer-in-charge Mon Fernandez in a statement.

“We hope that we can get to the truth and bring the accountable to justice swiftly. The PSC will never waver in its duty to protect the interest of its stakeholders and the Filipino people,” the former PBA star added.
