THE Philippine Sports Commission is looking to strengthen its grassroots development program by assigning its commissioners to the different parts of the country.
PSC chairman William ‘Butch’ Ramirez said he has asked commissioners Mon Fernandez and Charles Maxey to take care of Visayas and Mindanao, respectively, following Monday’s board meeting, the government sports agency’s first under President Duterte’s administration.
The PSC hopes to improve its reach to the countryside in their continuous search for eventual members of the national team with this move. Ramirez also said the agency will look for coordinators in the different provinces to help the commissioners in this search.
“In every region, may mga sports leaders naman doon like athletic directors and sports organizers. We will leave it up to the commissioners to bring their resume to assess and evalaute and perhaps, eventually, they will become consultants,” Ramirez said.
Ramirez said the move will hope to springboard the creation of several provincial training centers.
“Magkakaroon din kami ng mga regional training centers and a regional talent identification program,” said Ramirez.
