THE Philippine Sports Commission (PSC) is looking to put up funds for an incentive scheme for the Philippine National Games to encourage more local government units to create their own sports programs.
The PNG schedule is still being finalized, and the PSC is working on the ranking system for LGUs to determine the division of the prize fund.
PSC chairman William Ramirez said the P10 million cash prize, once approved by the Commission, will go to the top 10 LGUs. Ramirez bared the plans during the Sports Caravan Region 4 leg in Talisay City, Batangas
“It’s not about the incentive. It’s about the grassroots program that was created,” said Ramirez, during his speech in front of representatives from different LGUs in the Calabarzon and Mimaropa regions.
“Magbibigay kami sa champion team na babalik sa city or province,” said Ramirez, whose cash incentive scheme was patterned after the China Games.
Ramirez said some LGUs who were represented during the Sports Caravan said they lack the funds to participate in competitions like the PNG and the Batang Pinoy.
“Mabuti kung bigyan niyo kami ng pera,” said Ramirez, quoted the LGU representatives.
Ramirez said prizes will also be at stake in the regional qualifiers for the PNG and Batang Pinoy.
