CHRISTMAS comes early for several Filipino athletes as the Philippine Sports Commission began implementing its athletes’ prioritization program last November 1.
A total of 186 athletes is expected to receive an increase in their monthly allowances starting this month, some of which will be given an amount of P40,000 – an addition of P20,000 or a 100 percent increase of their stipend.
Others are set to get P30,000 and P25,000, respectively based on their recent performances in international meets like the Southeast Asian Games.
All athletes under the prioritization program will be having an increase in their allowances, provided they will only be focused on training and not be involved in ‘part-time’ activities like coaching.
The athletes underwent stringent physical examination before being included in the program.
“We will create a task force to oversee the implementation,” said PSC executive director Guillermo Iroy. “It should be in accordance with the program.”
Iroy said that next on the PSC’s plans is the prioritization of coaches.
