PSC nationwide talent identification program opens with three-day clinic in Pangasinan

    Mar 15, 2017
PSC chairman William Ramirez hopes to increase the number of elite athletes by going to the provinces.

THE Philippine Sports Commission has started the Philippine Sports Institute’s nationwide talent search last week with a three-day clinic in the town of Basista in Pangasinan where 300 children attended.

PSC chairman William Ramirez said he also encouraged Basista mayor Manolito De Leon and Malasiqui mayor Noel Anthony Geslani to identify a maximum of 10 focus sports for their towns.

PSC commissioner Ramon Fernandez and PSI national training director Marc Velasco joined Ramirez in talks with governors and mayors from Visayas about regional sports programs, with stops in Davao, Naga City and Batangas set in the coming week.

“If we put our efforts in the grassroots program, the number of Filipino elite athletes will grow in five years,” said Ramirez.

“We will go to every city and municipality and help them set up a genuine sports program,’’ said Ramirez.
