THE Philippine Sports Commission said it has been reviewing its policies and is looking into the possibility of increasing athletes and coaches’ allowances.
The PSC currently gives a monthly allowance of P40,000 to a priority athlete, classified as an athlete who is being groomed as a gold medal potential in international competitions like the Southeast Asian Games, Asian Games and the Olympics.
Speaking during the celebration of the government sports agency’s 28th anniversary on Friday, PSC chairman William Ramirez said the board has been reviewing policies over the past week although it has yet to determine the rate of increase or when it can be done.
“We are looking at our own house kung nagkukulang ba kami sa policies. Inaayos namin ito,” Ramirez said.
“Ang aming focus ngayon, eto bang maximum allowance ng atleta, klaruhin muna namin bago kami mag-increase na may basehan,” said Ramirez.
“We are trying to professionalize and become genuine partners in spite of differences,” said Ramirez, referring to issues between the PSC and NSAs.
”Nag-evolve ito sa pag-review ng mga athletes, coaches, budgets, and policy, hoping na we can have a legacy to the next board at maayos naman ‘yung iiwanan namin ng pamamahala dito,” said Ramirez.
