Power Smashers show grit in incredible comeback to stun Pocari and force semis decider

    Jun 6, 2017

POWER Smashers dragged Pocari Sweat to a decider after a 24-26, 22-25, 25-18, 25-23, 15-13 victory in Game Two of the best-of-three semifinal series on Tuesday at the PhilSports Arena in Pasig.

Thai imports Kannika Tipachot and Hyapa Amporn led the way for the Power Smashers with 28 and 18 points, respectively, while Arellano University standout Jovelyn Prado scored 17.

Coming from a frustrating 23-25, 19-25, 25-23, 25-22, 12-15, loss in Game One, the Power Smashers made sure they learned from their mistakes and completed a come-from-behind win.

“Kailangan lang namin ma-explain lang. Siguro sa mindset lang ng players,” said Power Smashers coach Nes Pamilar.

Ahead by four, 10-6 in the fifth set, the Power Smashers lost focus as the Lady Warriors tied the contest, 13-13.

But Regine Arocha pushed the Power Smashers at match point with an off-speed attack and Tipachot scored on a Pocari Sweat misreceive to seal the win.

American import Michelle Strizak finished with 33 points, seven points shy of her league-record, and Myla Pablo added 20 for Pocari Sweat.

Jeanette Panaga and Cai Nepomuceno added 11 for the Lady Warriors, who gave away 33 points to their opponents courtesy of their errors.
