A LONG-PLANNED training facility for national athletes could be moved from the Rizal Memorial Sports Complex to Rizal province if plans of Philippine Olympic Committee (POC) president Jose `Peping’ Cojuangco push through.
Cojuangco said he has asked the help of one of his relatives in obtaining a tract of land for a new training center in the Rizal municipality of Tanay where national athletes will also be housed.
“Humihingi ako ng kopya sa pamangkin ko sa province of Rizal na may sinasabi silang compound with a thousand hectares. May mga area doon na available,” Cojuangco said during the weekly POC radio program on DZSR Sports Radio 918.
The prospective location of the training center is closer to Manila than Clark in Angeles City where Cojuangco had originally eyed to build the facility.
“It’s about 30 kilometers from the Elliptical Circle (in Quezon City). It’s not very far,” said Cojuangco.
The POC president has long been batting to move national athletes from the Rizal Memorial Sports Complex and Philsports complex in Pasig City to a new training facility far from crowded Metro Manila.
Cojuangco has also been adamant in selling or leasing the Rizal Sports Complex in order to raise funds for the construction of the new training center.
“Let’s try to gain from it by selling or leasing it so we can use the funds to build a training center,” said Cojuangco.
