DARWIN, Australia – The Philippines completed a sweep of the group stage in the Arafura Games men’s basketball tournament with a 86-64 victory over Johor on Thursday at the Darwin Basketball Stadium.
Clemente Cruz had 13 points and seven rebounds, while Leomer Losentes had 12 points for the Philippines, which also got 10 points and eight rebounds from Dennis Villarmia.
The Philippines outscored the Malaysian team, 31-11, in the second quarter to pull away, going 3-0 in Group A play.
The Filipinos advances to the next phase, a round robin playoffs against the top teams from Group B and Group C.
The Filipino cagers will take on Northern Territory Top End on Friday morning and WA Indigenous at in the evening. The top two teams in the round robin playoffs battle for the gold on Saturday.
