Philippines ends Arafura Games campaign with silver in badminton

DARWIN, Australia – The Philippines capped off its campaign in the 2019 Arafura Games with a silver medal by the badminton team on Saturday at the Darwin Convention Center.

The Filipino shuttlers lost to East Kalimantan, 5-3, in the final.

The Philippines finished its campaign in the Arafura Games with 31 gold, 51 silver and 34 bronze medals.

Karylle Kaye Medina beat Karina Ria Hardianti, 21-19, 13-21, 21-19, in the women’s singles, and Estarco Bacalso won over Surya Purnamasidi, 18-21, 21-10, 21-15, in the men’s singles.

Bacalso and Arthur Samuel Salvado defeated Haikal Afrizal and Purnamasidi, 21-19, 25-23, in the men’s doubles for the country’s third win in that final tie.

Before the silver medal in badminton, the men’s and women’s regu team in sepak takraw also got bronze medals on the final day of the Arafura Games.
