DARWIN, Australia – The Philippines bagged 10 gold medals Monday in the 2019 Arafura Games, to surpass the country’s haul eight years ago when the multisports competition was last held.
Seven gold medals in swimming and three in athletics brought the country’s gold medal haul to 28, one more than the Philippines’ total in 2011.
Zoemarie Hilario won the women’s 15 to 16 year old 200m individual medley and 200m backstroke.
Ray Martin Yarra won the men’s 13 to 14 year old 200m butterfly, John Martin Yarra topped the men's 17 and over 200m butterfly, Samuel John Alcos ruled the men’s 17 year old above 50m backstroke, and John Paul Elises bagged the gold in the men’s 15 to 16 year old 200m butterfly.
In athletics, Romel Bautista topped the 400m hurdles, while the men’s and women’s 4x400m relay team also won.
