THE Philippine Padel Association (PPA) is proud to announce its participation in the Asia-Africa Qualifiers for the World Padel Championship, scheduled to take place in Kuwait from September 22-27, 2024.
This marks a historic milestone as the Philippines will be represented as a team for the first time in an official competition organized by the International Padel Federation (FIP).
The Women's Team, led by Team Captain Jessica Agra, includes Anna Christine Patrimonio, Jessica Lucas, Alessa Marie Belbes, Rovy Conle Castillo, and Michelle Rose Dickson. The Men's Team, captained by Timothy Alonso, is composed of John Michael Tamayo, Jaybee Buenaventura, Barry James Vicente, Alexander Jr Borela, and Arnel Burden.
Their preparation has been rigorous, with training held at the Manila Padel Club, supported by MartinX Academy.
The team's coaching staff features Martin Noschese from Argentina and Coach John Michael Tamayo, the first Filipino padel coach to be internationally certified and to lead the Philippine Padel team in the World Padel Championships.
Their efforts, coupled with the unwavering support of our sponsors—K-Swiss, Rudy Project, PACE Prehab and Recovery, Philippine Airlines, FILA, Wheyl, 40 Love Collagen Drinks, and m88 Mansion—have been crucial in making this journey possible.
“We are incredibly proud to be taking this monumental step forward for padel in the Philippines. Competing at the international level is a dream we’ve worked towards for years, and it is an honor to see our athletes representing the country on such a prestigious stage,” said Alenna Dawn Magpantay, Founder and President of the Philippine Padel Association.
“With the dedication of our players, coaches, and the support from our partners, I am confident this is only the beginning of a bright future for padel in the Philippines.”
In addition to competing in Kuwait, the PPA is thrilled to announce that the first-ever FIP tournament in Manila will take place from November 11-17, 2024.
This landmark event will offer players the opportunity to earn points in the international rankings and is expected to attract top talent from the Asia-Pacific, Middle East, and Europe.
Hosting the FIP tournament in Manila signifies a tremendous step forward for padel in the Philippines, and we are excited to showcase the sport's growth and potential on the international stage.
